NEON TOAST  Media Release

16 – 19 September

To make a good loaf of sourdough bread, you need the right ingredients, the right chemistry and the right timing. The same can be said of finding love.

Born of a baker’s story, in a busy Melbourne bakery, Neon Toast seamlessly blends theatre and dance using objects found in a bakery. Sacks are danced in, flour is flung and toast appears in neon form. With the help of classified ads and online dating sites, the humorous, bizarre and touching ways that people search for ‘The One’ are folded and mixed in with the precise craft of baking the perfect loaf.

Neon Toast premiered in the Melbourne Fringe Festival 2009, and was well received by audiences and critics. Now, with a new cast member, new original tacks and re-developed material, this energising theatre and dance collaboration is set to take audiences on a flour-filled adventure and leave them warm, satisfied and longing for a good slice of sourdough.

Neon Toast pays homage to nostalgic live performance with a contemporary edge. Sometimes I felt like I was watching a Harold Pinter in dance form…I highly recommend seeing this performance. They have put together a beautiful and professional piece that warms the heart.’ Amelia de Rauch, Arts Hub.
